My 14 year old arab gelding has always been plump, and I've always had to work hard to keep him from being obese. I haven't ridden him or been to the ranch where I board him for about a week (due to graduation and other such) and now I can see his ribs plainly, those the rest of his body is covered in fat and muscle, and he seems as energetic as ever. I have recently dewormed him, about a week and a half ago. Maybe this could be a cause?
Please, someone get back to me on this. |

Triston,
I'm not sure why your horse had suddenly lost so much weight but I was curious what does he eat regularly? alfalfa grass or pellets? or does he graze in a pasture? and do you feed him any oats or grain with molasses. I have a thoroughbred and he is built and looks healthy all except sometimes his ribs stick out .And it is hard to keep weight on him but I feed him often oates, and molasses pouring weight gain oils or syrup on the food, you could give that a try. hope this is some sort of help |
