pts 17 July 2001. Aged almost 18 years.
Black with white markings. Very quiet. Very loving. For many years I fed her a commercial pet food which she ate. But she was always cleaning her skin and the Vet diagnosed flea allergy. Although she was an indoor cat we did have a dog so I didn't think any further.
3 months before she died we were sent a sample of a very popular brand of cat food which she loved. And she stopped cleaning herself.
I will never get over the guilt that this little cat had a food allergy. And I didn't spot it. Her symptoms were that of allergy and I didn't realise that animals can be affected by their food. Especially commercial products. From the day she began W.......s she didn't itch.
So if your pet begins to show symptoms of itching or skin allergy think about what you are feeding it. Do change the diet for 6 weeks and see if there is a difference. We pour so many chemicals down our pets that simple ways are often worth pursuing first. If Jemma's story helps one pet owner then it will lessen the guilt for me! |
